Our Story
STARTED WITH
ONE INSTALL
In 2019, Evan Stone installed his first residential solar system in Upstate South Carolina. He'd spent years watching out-of-state solar companies descend on the Southeast — selling systems sized for California sun, ignoring local utility structures, and disappearing when something went wrong.
He started SmartSun to do it differently. A company that understood the Southeast's climate, utility rates, and building codes. One that would pull permits, hire local crews, and stand behind every install with a real warranty.
What started as a one-crew solar operation grew into a full home energy company as Evan realized that solar alone wasn't enough. A leaking roof, an undersized electrical panel, or an inefficient HVAC system could undermine the best solar install. So SmartSun added roofing, then electrical, then HVAC — building the team and licenses to handle every system in a home.
Today, SmartSun has powered over 3,500 homes across five states. The mission hasn't changed: honest advice, quality work, and a company you can actually call back.

Founded in South Carolina
Evan Stone installs his first residential solar system in the Upstate SC. SmartSun is born out of frustration with out-of-state companies that didn't understand the Southeast's unique climate and utility landscape.
Added Roofing Services
After seeing too many solar installs compromised by aging roofs, SmartSun adds a licensed roofing division — so customers can address both in one project.
Expanded to NC & GA
Growing demand from neighboring states leads to full licensing and operations in North Carolina and Georgia.
HVAC, Electrical & Battery Backup
SmartSun launches full HVAC, electrical, and battery backup divisions — completing the vision of a true whole-home energy company. Operations expand into Florida and Virginia.
